KAPSARC By Zaha Hadid Architects In The Saudi Arabian Capital Riyadh
KAPSARC is an independent, non-profit institution located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The Center was established by a decision of the Saudi Council of Ministers. Its activities are funded in perpetuity by an endowment provided by the Government of Saudi Arabia. The endowment enables researchers to conduct independent, objective research without the need to raise capital and without pressure from external funders or donors.
KAPSARC’s unique Research and Office Complex (ROC) has been designed by renowned architect Zaha Hadid to integrate with the environment and to minimize energy and water consumption. In addition to the Research Center, the modular, adaptive areas and inspiring spaces of the ROC include an Energy Knowledge Center, Conference Center, Musalla and Energy Computer Center. The ROC employs a variety of sustainable building techniques and advanced technologies and has achieved LEED Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Solar power provides a significant percentage of the ROC and Residential Complex energy requirements.
